How Power BI unifies analytics

Challenge: Unification of Business Analytics

Our client, a company in the manufacturing sector, asked us to unify all the analyzes of the different company areas under a single tool.

Solution: Implementing Power BI

To address this challenge, we have developed a data warehouse including data marts dedicated to the different business areas. We therefore selected Power BI as the main tool for building the analysis models.
Since Power BI is an intuitive and interactive tool, we have adopted a "training on the job" approach. During this process, we provided business users with the tools they needed to create reports and dashboards themselves. A particularly beneficial aspect of this training was that users were able to learn how to use Power BI by working directly with their data, immediately starting to build meaningful reports for various business purposes.
The results were extremely positive: users were very willing to learn and quickly mastered the software, showing a deep interest in its potential.

Sales Analysis

We started with sales analysis, focusing on Ordered, Billed and Shipped metrics over time, both in terms of quantity and value. The metrics were categorized by product and customer dimensions. We then developed detailed analyzes of product attributes and specifications, as well as customer characteristics, for both billing and destination.

Purchase Analysis

Next, we focused on purchasing, the other side of the coin. Again, the categorizations were made in terms of product, but instead of customer, we considered supplier attributes.

Warehouse analysis

Regarding the warehouse, we started by analyzing the incoming and outgoing movements for all company warehouses. We then created metrics in Power BI to define the current inventory for each selected period. The analyzes carried out include the analysis of the average stock, the trend in the value and quantity of the stock, and the trends in the purchase prices of the raw material.

Logistics Analysis

A key analysis for the client concerned freight transport logistics. It was necessary to determine whether the transport cost quoted and invoiced to the customer matched the actual cost recorded after delivery. In addition to the analysis of the trend of transport costs (estimated and actual) over time, further analyzes were carried out. Among these: the relationship between the value of the transported goods and the transport cost, the calculation of any margins between the actual cost and the budgeted one, the classification of transporters based on their ability to keep costs below the budgeted level, and the cost analysis by product category and volume of goods.
